Meet the Mentors

  • John Abraham
     John Abraham
    John is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Engineering. He got involved as a member of the Stony Brook Motorsports Team and IEEE, by attending various events on campus, and is a former mentee. He is working on an independent project in computer vision with one of his graduate TA’s. As a 6 year old, he used to steer his uncle's car while sitting on his lap.

    Ashritha Annam
    Ashritha is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Biomechanics and Biomaterials. She got involved as a member of the Bioengineering, Education, Application and Research (BEAR) VIP team, the Secretary of BMES, and as an Undergraduate Fellow for CTI. She has traveled to 8 countries.
  • Labesh Baral
    Labesh Baral
    Labesh is a sophomore at Stony Brook, double majoring in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and Statistics. He got involved as a member of the Automotive Ethics VIP Team and is a former mentee. He interned at Amazon this summer, prototyping and deploying an important service to monitor the health of AWS databases across the globe. He is a big animal person and wants to one day live out on a ranch of his own.

    Cailey Bobadilla
    Cailey is a sophomore at Stony Brook, double majoring in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and Technological Systems Management. She got involved as a member of PUSO, WiCS and is a former mentee. She is a Peer Tutor for the Academic Success and Tutoring Center and was a Chronic Disease Management Intern at FreedomCare. The longest flight she’s been on was 17 hours.

    Mary Calandra
    Mary is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering with a specialization in Polymers and a minor in Spanish Language and Literature. She got involved as the Battery Team Lead for the Chem-E-Car in AIChE, the Secretary of Stony Brook Running Club and as a member of the WISE Honors program. She interned at Estée Lauder and has 3 cats.
  • Sarah Irfan
    Sara Irfan
    Sarah is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Sarah got involved as a member of the WISE Honors Program, ASME, and Commuter Student Association. She attended many club events, involvement fairs, and internship panels throughout her first year. At 15, she broke both feet at the same time and had to wear a cast on each foot for 2 months.

    Wenhui is a junior at Stony Brook, double majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering and Applied Mathematics and Statistics with a specialization in Polymers. She got involved as a campus tour guide and a member of the WISE Honors Program. She likes to cook and make brown sugar milk tea.

    Yash is a junior at Stony Brook, double majoring in Computer Science and Economics. Yash got involved as a former mentee. He interned at the Rehani and Co. Accounting Firm in NYC. He’s a foodie that has even eaten crickets.
  • Rachel Leong
    Rachel Leong
    Rachel is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power and Energy Systems. She got involved as the Event Coordinator for SWE and IEEE and as a member of WiCS, TBP, and the Stony Brook Robotics Team. She is the former Vice President and current President of IEEE and is a member of the Honors College. She was an Innovation Intern at TC Electric in NYC and a planning Intern at ITC Holdings Corp. in Michigan. She was in her school's chorus in elementary, middle, and high school.

    Danny is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved by participating in WiCS’s HopperHacks and attending cultural events hosted by CASB, ASA, CTC and VSA. During the 2nd semester of his freshman year, he challenged himself to meet and talk to 100 people, and did it! He likes to go on walks in nature to calm his mind and to be present in the moment.

    Kyle is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering with a specialization in Materials Science. He got involved as the President of the Renewable Energy Society, a member of AIChE/Chem-E-Car Team and is a former mentee. He does research with Professor Mahajan for the Institute of Gas Innovation and Technology and interned at Kohler Instrument Company and Estee Lauder. He just got a Chiweenie!

    Lance is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power and Energy Systems. He got involved as a Lead Student Technician for DoIT CES and is a former mentee. After completing his internship at Texas Instruments this summer, he is planning a road trip from Dallas, Texas back to New York.

    Matthew is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved as a member of the Stony Brook Robotics Team, Stony Brook Game Developers, and is a former mentee. He interned at National Instruments in Summer 2023. He has owned 12 different video game consoles.

    Sarena Sahadeo
    Sarena is a senior at Stony Brook, majoring in Civil Engineering. She got involved as a member of the WISE Honors Program and is a former mentee. She tutors various subjects, was a construction intern at AvalonBay Communities and a Development and Construction intern at Prologis. She loves to go to the beach, but doesn’t know how to swim.

    Steven is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Engineering. He got involved as the Treasurer of IEEE, a member of the Stony Brook Robotics Team, SASE and WiCS. He is a SINC Site Senior Consultant at DoIT, was a Technology Intern at Kroger Technology and Digitaland, and is a former mentee.. Despite his focus on engineering, he enjoys learning about fine and performing arts, music, history, and also language.

    Laaibah is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Technological Systems Management with a minor in Film and Screen Studies. She got involved as a member of the Pakistani Student Association, Swifties at SBU, the Astronomy Club, and is a former mentee. She collects vinyl records.

    Zachary Slade
    Zachary is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering with a specialization in Materials Science. He got involved as a University Scholars Fellow, a pianist in the Stony Brook Music Department, and is a former mentee. He will be competing in the Undergraduate Concerto Competition in early 2024 and has climbed 29 of the Adirondack 46 High Peaks, including the tallest mountain in New York State (Mt. Marcy).

    Nikitha is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Information Systems. She got involved as a mentee/member of WiCS, helped them plan for and volunteered at HopperHacks, and is a former CEAS Peer Mentoring Program mentee as well. She can solve a Rubik's Cube

    Suk-Yin is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a specialization in Molecular and Cellular Biomedical Engineering. She got involved as a member of the American Medical Women's Association, the Stem Cell Engineering VIP team, a CHE 321 and BIO 204 TA, and is a former mentee.She does research in the Shrestha lab for the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior.  She is a NYS certified EMT.

    Sam is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved as a member of the University Scholars program, a rower and occasional coxswain for Stony Brook Crew, and is a former mentee. He enjoys reading and taking photos, especially while on hikes, but he lives in the city.

    Myles is a graduate student at Stony Brook, earning his Master of Science in Civil Engineering. He volunteers for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and does research with Dr. Celli in the CIV department. He has interned at H2M Architects + Engineers as a Draftsman, as a Transportation Construction Inspector for the NYS Department of Transportation, and as a Tunnel Engineering Intern at Mott MacDonald. His previous mentees taught him how to ride a longboard.

    Michael is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Communications, Signal Processing and Networking. He got involved as a member of IEEE and the Ski and Snowboard Club. He is a member of University Scholars and interned at Zebra Technologies. He travels across the country each winter to ski.

    Grace is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. She got involved as the freshmen representative for SBCS and the social media manager for SBUHacks. She is a member of the Tech Business Development VIP team, did an REU at the University of Nevada, and is a former mentee. She has a lazy eye, and in kindergarten, wore an eye patch, resembling that of a pirate, to help strengthen her eye.

    Zhi Bin is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved by participating in hackathons, the Boxing Club, and is a former mentee. He interned at TECH:NYC and grew up on a small island in the southern part of China

    William is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He got involved as the former Treasurer and current Historian of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), a member of Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society, the Bioengineering Education, Application and Research (BEAR) VIP Team, the Honors College, and is a former mentee. He interned at National Grid and is a huge Marvel and Star Wars fan.

    Paris is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. She got involved with the Direct Reading Program in the MAT department, is a member of the WISE Honors Program, and is a former mentee. She likes to solve puzzles and go outdoors with friends in her free time.

    Daniel is a junior at Stony Brook, majoring in Computer Science. He got involved as a member of the Computing For Good VIP team, a Teaching Assistant for CSE, and is a former mentee. He works in AV Services for DoIT and is in the middle of some storyboard drafting.

    Marko is a sophomore at Stony Brook, majoring in Chemical and Molecular Engineering on the pre-med track with a minor in Chemistry. He got involved as the Community Engagement Assistant for the Pre-Med Society and the Event Coordinator for the Linguistics Club. He is a former mentee and received a position doing research with Professor Koga (CME) after meeting with him at our faculty roundtable event. He plays drums in a band called Grandma's Basement
