Research Associate Physics - Optics and Metrology at Brookhaven National Laboratory: 

The NSLS-II optical metrology laboratory is seeking a Research Associate with expertise in optical metrology. The NSLS-II optical metrology laboratory is a group involved in optical metrology, diffraction-limited X-ray mirror fabrication, optical design, and physical optics modeling to support the design and construction of X-ray beamlines on the NSLS-II synchrotron light source. The candidate is expected to utilize the existing metrology instruments and develop new capabilities for X-ray mirror metrology and/or fabrication. The main goal is to use, extend and to improve these capabilities.

Seeking anticipated PhD graduates with a passion to work on practical projects with a background of optical metrology, fabrication and machine learning.  Candidates must be able to to apply machine learning knowledge in tandem with current optical metrology/fabrication projects.

Optical Materials and Spectroscopy:

The Postdoctoral Associate will assist Principal Investigator Dr. Jie Gao in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. Duties will include conducting experiment and/or theoretical work in the research areas of optical materials and spectroscopy studies, collecting and analyzing data, writing manuscripts for publications, preparing project reports, and maintaining the lab and lab equipment.
