Current Residents who meet the eligibility for returning resident room selection apply
in two phases. Phase 1 is the initial application in the housing portal from mid-February
to early March. Phase 2 is room selection from late March to mid-April.
Newly admitted summer and fall students apply in the housing portal starting in early April. Room selection for new first years occurs in late May or early June based on your Undergraduate College assignment. New transfers and new graduate students take place in mid to late June.
All new spring residents are administratively placed based on preferences, eligibility, and space availability in late December and early January.
Student who is a spring housing resident or fall residents registered for summer
or fall classes. 2) A student without housing affiliation enrolled in summer classes
that require an in-person presence. 3) A spring semester graduate in need of summer
housing.
Applications are accepted in the housing portal from mid-April until early July.
Current students who do not meet any current eligibility requirements for the returning resident or new student applications or have missed deadlines for housing applications.
Our waitlist application will let you join the graduate or undergraduate on-campus waitlist that you are eligible for. As students' plans change and we do not know when or if we will reach someone on the waitlist, you must recertify your interest monthly in the housing portal starting the month after you initially joined. All offers are sent to your active email address which for most students is their Stony Brook University email. Offers typically extend on Tuesday or Fridays with a deadline of the 3 days to respond when space is available to be offered.
