Scholarships

Scholarships are a great way to fill the gap when paying for college. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement and do not have to be paid back. We encourage international students to apply for scholarships that Stony Brook University offers, as well as looking for external scholarship opportunities.

Global Excellence ScholarshipInternational students who are currently seniors in high school and have achieved a meritorious unweighted high school average are automatically considered for this four-year scholarship. High school academic program, SAT/ACT scores, co-curricular activities, research experiences, or special talents or skills may also be taken into account. Scholarships vary based on academic qualifications.

Students who are selected to receive the Global Excellence Scholarship will be notified via email and SOLAR. Be sure to check SOLAR for the most up to date terms and conditions for this award.

Private Alternative Loans

International students that require assistance covering all or a portion of their university charges may want to consider private educational loans. Private educational loans are offered through a lending institution of your choice. You must apply directly with the lender. The lender may require that you have a co-signer. Some may require that the co-signer is a permanent resident, others require US citizenship. Students are encouraged to review our preferred lender list

Disclaimer:

While we highlight this lender for informational purposes, it's important to note that we do not endorse them. We encourage all students to thoroughly explore and evaluate all available options when selecting a private loan lender. Making informed decisions about financial matters is crucial, and students should consider factors such as interest rates, terms, repayment options, and customer service before committing to any loan agreement. Additionally, researching and comparing multiple lenders can help students find the best possible fit for their individual needs and circumstances.
