Chair's Message
Welcome to Stony Brook University Mechanical Engineering.
We make. We measure. We motivate. Our discipline emerged with the steam engine and the locomotive. Today we are using AI tools to build robots and design rockets to explore the solar system. Mechanical engineering lives where thoughts become things and the literal rubber meets the road.
SBU Mechanical Engineering faculty are world-class. Professor Anurag Purwar designs and makes robots. Take his MEC 101 class and you'll be designing and making robots too and learning foundational skills in engineering. Study Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook and you will almost certainly take a class from Professor Juldah Sesay. Whether it's Everyday Science & Engineering or Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, or graduate-level courses, such as Heat Transfer and Modern Power Cycles, you’ll get a great education from one of our very best.
Above all, we are committed to our students — to success at every level and for a lifetime. Everen Azeloglu earned a BE with us and an MS from SBU Biomedical Engineering before getting a PhD at Columbia University in Biomedical Engineering. Today he is engineering solutions for patients with kidney disease on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Unlocking the secrets of matter? That takes serious physics and outstanding engineering. Alumna Jennifer Maceiko is Senior Piping Design Engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory where she designs the systems that keep the cold stuff just this side of absolute zero.
Does your path run through mechanical engineering?
- Whether you are in high school, or are long-done with your first college degree and thinking about returning, there’s a route to success for you to chart here.
- Does your company need world-best engineers? Reach out to us.
- Interested in supporting us in our mission? Engineering is a team sport.
Grateful every day to be a Seawolf,
P. Scott Carney
