About Us

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Stony Brook University is ABET accredited, offering a Bachelor of Engineering degree, a combined BE/MS program, and graduate programs leading to the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees. A broad curriculum is available in our graduate programs with concentrations in Mechanical Design, Solid Mechanics, Thermal Sciences, and Fluid Mechanics. The faculty is active in research, with funding from Federal and State agencies such as the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and from private industry. The mechanical engineering department is located in the Light Engineering building in the Engineering Quad on campus, just a few short steps away from the Student Activities Center and the heart of campus.
